Title

A Franco-American in Montréal

Creator

Martin, Jane E.

Description

Martin talks about her life as a Franco-American--French Canadian from the province of Quebec, but born and raised in the US. She grew up hearing about her mother's time "in Canada." The nuns, her curfew, eating lunch with young women with names like her own--Ghislaine, Luce, Fleurette--and running through an underground tunnel to get to practicum twenty minutes later. The boxes of carres aux dattes she would buy at a bakery near school and store on her windowsill. Studying on the roof of the Hotel-Dieu, taking her boards at the Universite de Montreal. The beautiful French of those in Montreal.
