Critical analysis of Louis Hémon's novel, <i>Maria Chapdelaine</i>, sparked by the recent centennial of Hémon's birth (1880). Some descriptions of the novel's main character, Maria, and her choice between two suitors - one to remain in Canada, or one to leave for Massachusetts.
